What are the requirements of a volunteer

You must meet the following criteria to be a volunteer:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • able to volunteer a minimum 4 hours a month
  • possess good interpersonal skills - must speak English fluently, other languages are an asset
  • must enjoy working with the public
  • must be a team player
  • willing to undergo a police security clearance check
  • must keep information confidential

The West End –Coal Harbour Community Policing Centre is recruiting an EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR for our Davie Street Office
The successful individual should have proven experience working with non-profit
organization, City Hall, Vancouver Police Department, funding agencies, and
community organization. In addition to multi-tasking and computer proficiency,
volunteer management and strong recruiting skills are a must. Grant writing
application skills an asset. The successful candidate will report directly to an
Elected Board of Directors and will coordinate effective internal and external
communication skills, oversee existing outreach programs and develop/implement

WECHCPC is pleased to announce a new Executive Director
Effective July 5, 2010 

The new Executive Director is Ms. Aleya Trott.  A native of Ontario, Aleya`s education includes university degrees in criminology and sociology as well as para-legal judicial training.  She has served both as a volunteer and a board member at the Grandview-Woodland CPC and worked during the Olympics out of the WECHCPC.  In addition to working as a provincial court clerk, she has most recently been working in the retail sector.  Aleya has been a resident of Vancouver for nearly seven years.

Aleya is both a professional and pleasant person to work with.  Under her leadership, the CPC will be strengthening its existing programs as well as instituting new ones.

Homeless Outreach


The WECHCPC is launching a brand new Homeless Outreach program. With the help of local businesses, community groups, and residents, we hope to end homelessness and drug addiction in the West End and Coal Harbour neighbourhoods.

Volunteer nursing students will be meeting with homeless people in the community to assist them with gaining income assistance, clothing, food resources, temporary or permanent housing, detox, and more.

In addition, local businesses will be helping to collect money for organizations that help people overcome homelessness and conquer drug addiction.

We are looking for members of the West End and Coal Harbour community who are interested in making their community safer to join the West End – Coal Harbour Community Policing Centre (WECHCPC)’s Board of Directors.

Apartment Watch


If you live in an apartment, townhouse or condo, or if you`re an apartment manager, or property owner, the West End – Coal Harbour Community Policing Centre would like to sign you up for our new Apartment Watch Program.

The Apartment Watch Program is designed to help apartment owners, residents, managers and others prevent crime in their building. The program is available to rental buildings, condos, residents’ associations, strata councils, and anyone else living in a multi-housing complex. This program was developed in partnership with the Vancouver Police Department to help address growing crime trends in dense, urban areas.

By signing up for the program, the Community Policing Centre will provide:

  • A Security audit of your building, parkade, suite, and grounds with a written assessment of any safety/security concerns 
  • Signage for your building and parkade entrances to ensure unwanted persons are not let in Safety materials for you and other residents about ongoing safety and security concerns 
  • A 1-hour presentation for all residents on apartment safety, crime reporting, and crime trends in the area 
  • A referral to the Crime Free Multi-Housing program, if applicable 

There is no cost for any of these services, and the audit and presentation can be scheduled according to your needs and availability.
